I appreciate this nomination! I've been in sales for the last 10 years. Originally, reluctantly. I had never really saw myself as a sales person. I struggled early in my career. Really struggled. I missed targets, I made excuses, and I hated my job.
I was a teacher in the US but had to leave the profession when I came to Norway since I didn't speak Norwegian. Once I finally realized that good sales was about understanding the customer and their needs, I was able to tap into the skills I developed as a teacher and begin to make an impact. It wasn't long after that mindset change that I was promoted to sales management.
Since then I have been a Sales Director, a Director of Sales Enablement, and now Head of Sales at Volur, a start-up that is dedicated to making the meat industry more sustainable.
What being a Modern Sales Leader means to Bryan Huber
As a manager, I look at what skills my team have from their background that they can tap into. The things that make them special and can help them achieve their targets.
For my own work, I constantly explore modern sales tools like data and analytics, automation, and AI. These have made a huge impact on the effectiveness of me and the team. I use data and analytics to understand market trends, customer preferences, and sales performance. This helps for my own decision making, and I can also feed this information back to the team. I also seek to automate repetitive tasks as much as possible through HubSpot. Things like Email follow-ups, scheduling meetings, or updating records that used to be a burden can be handled with ease. HubSpot helps me increase efficiency and allows our team to focus more on selling.
Finally, we have also started using AI tools to help with market research and add personalization into cold outreach. For example, we use ChatGPT to analyze publicly available customer information. We have also now begun using HubSpot's AI tools to create content that resonates with our audience, including personalized emails and personal social media posts, ensuring it's relevant and engaging. That's what being a modern sales leader is all about.
